The hashtag guide for your social media

Social media marketing is a type of online marketing that everyone knows about unless you are not online and technology savvy. Like how it is named, social media marketing involves all types of social media platforms. In short, it is often denoted as SMM. The hashtag plays a major role in social media platforms when you are searching for any particular news or trends over any particular topics.

The use of hashtags has evolved over time and it does help in getting organic traffic to a website or to your business. The hashtag helps social network in deciding the right algorithm to decipher and pull out the correct information and website. The algorithm also works according to what the audience have searched for. Some may be asking. How does the hashtag look like? The hashtag comes with a simple hash “#” symbol. Hashtag brings content together and increases visibility and presence, and also an opportunity of being searched on the top funnel.

Example: If somebody searches for #catofinstagram, then it is more likely to find cats on the top of all the other searches. More likely the hashtag matches the conversation, more will be the traffic and retweets you get.

If you are a social media marketer, then you should use the hashtag at the right place to get the traffic. Therefore, twitter admits the use of 1-3 hashtags at one point at a time, ensuring the hashtags are related to what you are posting and of course, related to the nature of your business too.

Instagram

Hashtag are the most happening in Instagram. This is where hashtags actually track the path for a maximum reach. The Instagram platform does not have the intelligence to seek and feed the things automatically. One has to feed the path and that can be only done through hashtags.

Yes, hashtags here are the paths for a user to search for their interests. It supports up to 30 hashtags in a post. Specific hashtags are great to find niche audiences.

Another way to get to a specific path is by looking at your competitor’s profile and selecting the most searched keywords. But remember, always use a combination of fun, local and industry hashtags in Instagram so that you can target the right audience. Example: #SportsWearSingapore

Other Social platforms

As for other social media platforms like Google+, the use of 1-3 hashtags is sufficient. As much as you are eager to get working on your hashtags, be mindful and abide by the social media rules too.
