To be one’s own boss is the catalyst driving many people to start their own online business. The allure of being financially independent, having all the free time to do what you want as and when you want it and the ability to make unilateral decisions without consulting anyone seems to be the driving force behind the ever increasing number of new entrepreneurs online. But however, every new entrepreneur will face a number of realities when they eventually make up their minds to start their online businesses.
1. The take-off phase is not as simple as a walk in the park
The mistake that many new online marketing entrepreneurs make is thinking that having the right idea is all it takes to be a success. They are wrong. Having the right idea is simply the first step. Implementing the idea and turning it into a workable concept is what differentiates a successful entrepreneur from a failure. When starting your online business, taking off and achieving success is one of the difficult things. Many people labor to lift their businesses off the ground as they face one setback after the other. As a new entrepreneur, you need to realize that a great idea alone is not enough and that you will have to work around the clock to lift your business from the ground.
2. The idea of total freedom is an illusion
The general feeling by many new entrepreneurs is that starting their businesses online will free up their schedule such that they will have a lot of free time. This is a fallacy and a notion that new entrepreneurs need to get away from. More than ever, you will have to spend countless hours working to make your idea a reality and make your business a reality. You will have to shoulder responsibilities you never did before when you were employed and even be forced to work late at night simply to see your business a success. Nothing ever comes easy.
3. You won’t have it easy being your own boss
Many new entrepreneurs fallaciously think that they would be the best at being their own boss. In fact, they dream of how rosy life would be when they start their own businesses and no longer have to worry about taking orders from others and what not. What they fail to realize is that they would now be facing even more challenges as they would have to be responsible on virtually every aspect of their business. They will have to make tough decisions on what marketing initiatives to undertake, how to package a product or service and which market to target. All these could be tasking and could take a toll on any new online entrepreneur. However, do not be afraid to fail and take up tough decisions. Fearing to fail is why most entrepreneur fail in their online business.
4. You don’t have a choice but to always be online
The number one merit about an online business is that you can run it from virtually anywhere and at any time. You can sell while others are sleeping and respond to your customers from whatever part of the world. There are many ways how entrepreneurs use online marketing to achieve success. And one of it is through social media marketing.
However, there is a dilemma to this end too. You will always have to be online as there is always a customer or someone who is trying to contact you. Prolonged absence online could hurt your business and therefore you need to make arrangements to ensure that you are always online. If you are not on your PC then you need to be constantly online on other devices. You simply can never turn off your mobile devices as the success of your business is dependent on your availability.
