2 reasons not to cross post on multiple social media pages

Cross-posting is the act of posting the same or similar content on multiple social media sites. People who supported the idea of cross-posting believe there is no harm in doing it. On the other hand, those who are against it believes that cross-posting on multiple social media pages should not be done at all cost. Let’s find out why some are really against this idea.

Duplicated content

There are some information shared which are location specific such as events, date, and time. A confusion will likely occur if a multinational company shares content that is location specific on multiple social media pages. On the other hand, sharing the same or similar content on multiple social media pages will result in a duplicated content in the Internet.

This is not an ideal result as this will affect your Search Engine Optimization (SEO) efforts. A business should bear in mind that, as much as they would like to share the same information in multiple social media pages, they should not risk their online marketing efforts – in this case, their online ranking. However, they can consider adopting link building techniques as an alternative. This is also known as building a back links.

Negative perceptions

When your followers notice similar content on your social media pages, they just might think of your brand as being lazy. This can dent your reputation in terms of social media and definitely your online brand.

Instead, do take time to customize each of the social media posting captions or content. Eventually, the followers will appreciate the extra effort which in turn means better social media engagements for you. Who wouldn’t want that?

There are times content will spill over to other social media sites. For instance, twitter has a reputation of initiating trends by using the hashtag (#). When some of your content by an act of nature or deliberate creativity goes viral, also known as content marketing, it will definitely spill over to other social networks.
